Street Vendors: The Control Is Not Concerning Port Louis Only

Control activities of hawkers concerns the whole country, announced Husnoo Anwar, Minister for Local Government.

If the relocation of street vendors of Port-Louis has made the news in recent weeks, operations are also underway in other regional authorities.

Among the communities that are affected: Rose Hill, Quatre Bornes, Centre de Flacq, Mahebourg or, to a lesser extent, Moka.

“Des mesures drastiques ont été prises pour Rose-Hill,” announced the Ministry of Local Government. Unannounced operations are conducted to prevent new traders to operate in the city. Ditto for Quatre Bornes where the authorities particularly attacked merchants who operate henceforth from vehicles. There was “a great deal” at Centre de Flacq and Mahébourg where hawkers have been banned to operate.

He also points out that some dealers have vehicles that allow them to operate in places with strong influence. “This is where the authorities must take firm action,” says the latter.
